KATHMANDU – Wandering through Kathmandu’s cobbled lanes is like stepping back in time to the 17th century. Buddhist stupas and Hindu shrines compete for attention amid the bustling crowds of rickshaw drivers, monks, hippies and sadhus. The three Durbar Squares in the heart of the city have been declared world heritage sites, while royal palaces reveal secret courtyards and hidden gardens and all of this a with a spectacular mountain backdrop of the Himalayas.
POKHARA – Situated on the beautiful Phewa Lake, Pokhara is for many the gateway to the Himalayas and a setting off point for trekking and rafting adventures. Surrounded by flowering forests and emerald lakes, Pokhara sits in the shadow of the massive Annapurna Mountains and from here you can take an aerial sightseeing tour for a close up view of Mount Everest. Deep river ravines, caves and waterfalls add to the beauty of this valley, the natural home of the Ghurkhas.
NAGARKOT – Watching the sun rise over the snowy caps of the Himalayas is an unforgettable vision and the charming hill station of Nagarkot is the best place to experience it. Come here in spring time and the surrounding valley is carpeted with flowers but Nagarkot is exceptionally beautiful at any time of year. It makes a perfect base for trekking, with a choice of short easy walks or more ambitious kikes depending on ability.
CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK – On the rolling lowlands of the Inner Terai, the forests and flood plains of Chitwan National Park are home to an astounding array of birds and animals, many of which are endangered and extremely rare. An elephant safari through the sal forests and elephant grass might afford a glimpse of Asian one horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, leopards, bears, boars or monkeys. More than 450 species of birds have been recorded here, as well as the endangered Gangetic crocodile and rare freshwater dolphins.
